Chinese Book Festival Brings A Literary Event for Reading Lovers

The annual Chinese book festival was held on June 3 at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), this event has attracted the interest of many reading lovers. The book festival will be open from June 3 to June 11 for nine days to the public. This unique activity presents an unparalleled opportunity for citizens and visitors exploration, communication, and sharing.


This book festival is a commercial book exhibition that brings together major publishers from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Belgium, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore. It’s a one-stop venue for readers. Visitors can find any book of their interest here. It provides a wide range of reading choices, catering to the reading needs of different individuals.

The Chinese Book Festival goes beyond book exhibitions, here also held a variety of entertaining and engaging activities such as live band performances, local and overseas author-sharing sessions, children's coloring competitions and Readers' Choice Awards (RCA) awards ceremony that can cater to readers of all ages.


Chew Choon, a mother with a child commented that, “As a mother, I believe this is a great opportunity for my child to be exposed to a wide variety of books and literary culture. There are many books and activities available here that can improve children's interest in reading and broaden their imagination. It also provides parents a chance to exchange experiences with other parents. It’s a beneficial and enjoyable event, next time I will invite my friends to come again.”

Due to the Covid-19, the book fair was delayed for a significant period of time, and many people expressed their missing the event during interviews.


Tang Chai, a reading lover, said, “Finally the book market has returned! Due to the Covid-19, this event was delayed for three years, and I really missed it. There were many books on my wish list, and I was thrilled to find them on sale, so I bought so many of them. It was a good experience for me.”


The Book Festival went a step further in enriching the literary experience for attendees by inviting renowned Taiwanese author Long Yingtai to participate in the event. Long Yingtai's presence added a significant dimension to the festival, elevating its impact and drawing even more attention from reading enthusiasts.


Ho Weiyan, a fan of Long Yingtai, said, “I have always been a loyal reader of Lung Yingtai for many years, her works have always captivated me. When I heard that she would be coming to the book festival, I immediately decided to attend. I hoped to meet her in person and listen to her thoughts and insights. Today at the sharing session, I felt a sense of empathy and connection with other fans of the book as we discussed the themes and ideas in Long Yingtai's work together. This interactive and communal experience made me love reading even more. ”


Hu Jingyang, a student from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, highlighted the festival's significance, she said, “This book festival offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the rich literary world of Asia. Whether you're a book lover, a writer, or just interested in different cultures, this event covers all aspects. It's a fantastic platform to discover new authors, explore different genres, and communicate with the vibrant literary community. I really love here.”


At the same time, this book market can also be seen as a platform for cultural exchange. Malaysia as a multicultural country, carries a rich history and tradition. Individuals from the Chinese community in Malaysia can connect with each other and explore their common cultural heritage here. Through the medium of books, this platform provides an avenue to explore the depth and breadth of Chinese literature, history, and philosophy. It becomes a space where people can engage in meaningful discussions, share their knowledge and experiences, and promote a sense of community.


Through sumptuous and colorful exhibitions, entertainment and literary exchanges, this year's China Book Festival provided a unique platform for people to enjoy receiving readings, discovering new authors and literary works, and gaining insights into the charms of different cultures. Whether students, book lovers, or parents, this book festival has given them unforgettable experiences and valuable opportunities.
