BANGI, 30 Apr - The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSK) took the initiative of the Bakul Kasih program through essential goods as a measure to address the issue of the rising cost of living among 100 university students who live outside of college.

Bakul Kasih is an event organised by the Students Association of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and created by Exco Welfare and Spirituality. It is clear that there is no longer a term for students to tie their stomachs and starve just to save money, said Exco of Welfare and Spirituality, Wan Nur Syafika Binti Wan Mohd Zin (FSSK).

The aim of this program is to help students who live outside of college, such as in rented housing, with their food needs, thereby reducing their financial burden.

The objective of Bakul Siswa is to take care of the welfare of students regardless of whether they live inside or outside the residential college in a fair manner and even provide suitable food that can last for several weeks to students. Among the foods given are rice, dry biscuits, flour, egg noodles, instant dishes, and many more.

“We did a survey and screening via Google Form before emailing the students with information such as the time, location, and date established for them” said Syafika.

Suprisingly, events like this are not uncommon at FSSK, normally every two months, Exco Welfare and Spirituality will provide food and refreshments at the prayer hall as well as the FSSK student association room for charity to all students in order to give them energy to attend class.

She said again, this event is meaningful for her because of the meaning of understanding as a student and emphasising the element of charity in society.

According to her, this message is critical in ensuring that all parties, particularly students living outside of residential institutions, are not forgotten and that their wellbeing is always prioritised.

The Bakul Kasih distribution received a lot of positive feedback from all students because the spirit and generosity shown by the Welfare and Spirituality Exco gives a little trust and dependence from FSSK students which makes them seem worthy of the positions held and elected by the university.

In addition, the Bakul Kasih event at the time ran easily and extremely well because they had prior experience with this type of event, and with the list of names they gathered, it was simple for them to check the names of students who can receive the Bakul Kasih.

“We saw many faces full of smiles when we were given this Bakul Kasih. It opened my eyes to always cultivate humanity in me because we will realise that everyone has their own difficulties in life” she said.

Rebecca, FSSK, one of the students who received the Bakul Kasih distribution, stated that she was very happy to receive food such as rice and flour because it helped to reduce daily expenses because her commitment was quite heavy.

"Sometimes I have to eat only once a day to pay for house rent and daily expenses such as transportation, so this Bakul Kasih can lighten my daily expenses" she said.

The Bakul Kasih event that was successfully implemented gave encouragement to the student association of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (PMFSSK) to continue helping, listening, and providing solutions to students in terms of finances and necessities to maintain the welfare and spirituality of students at FSSK

This kind of program actually provides a lot of benefits to students and the allocation is given to the student association of each faculty.

Therefore, they hope that this positive thing should be applied and encourage individuals to always help each other.
